| | Andrew will be 40 on 29th July 2008!!! Instead of the more traditional birthday party I intend to do two things to celebrate being 40 years old: Be at the Top of Pen y Fan for sunrise on 29th July 2008 (OS Grid SO012215, Landranger 160) - Lat / Long :+51° 52' 59.94", -3° 26' 5.61"
- Google Maps
A champagne breakfast awaits all those who make this climb so early!!
The easiest way to walk up is NOT from the Storey Arms. There is a car park further down the road (A470 towards Cardiff). Park there and look for the sign posts. It should take approximately 1 1/2 - 2 hours to climb there depending on what your fitness levels are like. (Be careful not to confuse Corn Du with Pen y Fan). The path is ok, but stout walking boots are required as well as waterproofs, warm fleece, woolly hat, gloves, water, map and compass etc. The Brecon's are a dangerous place due to micro climates. The weather can turn in seconds; several people die every year on Brecon's due to their carelessness. It takes about 60 minutes to drive from Llanvair Discoed to the car parks Sun rise on the 29th July 2008 is at approximately 0533hrs. It is possible to camp over night on National Park- however you do so at your own risk and will need to take everything with you. Cap sites are located around Brecon if you wish to avoid getting up so early!!
Be in the Woodlands Tavern, Llanvair Discoed, that same day from 1930hrs onwards
If you wish to join me for either, or both, I will see you there!! Click through to help raise funds for the Church. It doesn't sot you a penny more!!! |
