Rubbish collection
Monmouthshire Cleansing & Waste Management
Department have informed the Community Council that
Caerwent Community Council areas will be going onto fortnightly
general refuse collection some time between September and
February. They also sent an example of the leaflet
which goes to each householder. They will
leaflet the area at the appropriate time but thought they
would just let us know in advance. The red, purple, food
and green waste will continue on a weekly basis.
Until then
collection days remain as follows:
Black bags - Tuesdays
Blue boxes and green bags - Wednesdays
Red/purple recycling bags - Thursdays
During bank holiday
weeks this usually changes to the following days but check the Monmouthshire
website
or local papers for up-to-date info. Alternatively 'phone
the Caldicot One Stop Shop on 01291 426400.

BURGLARS ARE BACK!
A house in the village has recently been
burgled. The police say this time they are professionals
targeting houses rather than sheds and garages. Keep your valuables
safe and use/install a burglar alarm.
Burglaries
After the recent burglaries
a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme has been discussed with the police
and they suggested that the village should be split into three or
four areas with a co-ordinator for each one. PC Ashley Turner
will call on everybody in the near future to explain more and
hopefully sign everyone up to the scheme. Meanwhile he
stressed the importance of keeping your front and back
doors, sheds, garages, etc. locked and installing a burglar
alarm.

Pub Walk
THE WOODLANDS - WELL LANE -
SLADE'S COTTAGE - YSGUBOR KEMEYS - RETURN TO THE
WOODLANDS
Length of
walk about 2 1/4 miles. Park at the
Woodlands Tavern
car park. On leaving 'The Woodlands Tavern'
take the narrow left-hand road (Well Lane) and proceed uphill to its
end. Note the village well about 250 yards on the right-hand side. A
little further, on the left-hand side, are the renovated buildings
of the old Village Farm. New farm barns have been constructed
further up the lane on the right-hand side. Proceed to
the end of the lane and Slade's Cottage, extended over the years
from a small dwelling. Just past the cottage on the left is a gate
with a stile, cross the stile and bear immediately right,
negotiating the stream. Continue up the field, keeping the fence and
trees on your right. As you approach the top right-hand corner of
the field head towards a large tree near a gap in the stone wall.
Pass through the gap and cross The stile. Follow the path keeping
the thatched cottage on your right. Recently the cottage was
renovated and became part of the Gray Hill Village Historic
Project. Past the cottage at
the paths' junction, turn left and follow a pleasant woodland path,
cross a stile and continue until reaching a junction with a
bridleway that skirts the bottom of Gray Hill. Turn left at this
junction and proceed down the metalled road towards the top of
Llanvair Discoed. Turn left at the next junction and continue
downhill to "The Woodlands' noting the Castle remains (within
private property) above the churchyard. In the church porch is an
interesting inscribed stone which was originally situated as a stone
stile in the boundary wall of the churchyard, near the stone
shed.
